TESTING

The Georgia Department of Education’s Assessment and Accountability Division works hard to develop reliable tests for each grade level to ensure that students are making progress on the state mandated curriculum. Furthermore, federal law requires that all schools and districts report all student performance data. Reports are generated by the state each year allowing schools, parents, and community members to analyze the data so they can then work together to improve education for all students.

Georgia Milestones Assessment System
The Georgia Milestones Assessment System (Georgia Milestones) is a comprehensive summative assessment program spanning grades 3 through high school.  Georgia Milestones measures how well students have learned the knowledge and skills outlined in the state-adopted content standards in language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies.  Students in grades 3 through 8 will take an end-of-grade assessment in each content area, while high school students will take an end-of-course (EOC) assessment for each of the ten courses designated by the State Board of Education.  The ten EOC courses are as follows:

         - Language Arts
o  Ninth Grade Literature and Composition
                   o  American Literature and Composition
         - Mathematics
                   o  Coordinate Algebra
                   o  Analytic Geometry
                   o  Algebra 1
                   o  Geometry

                   o  Biology
         - Social Studies
                   o  United States History
                   o  Economics/Business/Free Enterprise

The Georgia Department of Education has released a video to provide an introduction to the Georgia Milestones Assessment System.  The video highlights the purpose of the assessment, the types of questions that students will see, and the types of feedback that students, parents, and educators will receive.

The video may be accessed at Georgia Milestones (middle of the page), as well as additional information regarding the assessment program.
